How I Beat the Water

I spent the morning working in the yard, moving water in the rain. I started out with a jacket and an umbrella, and one good muddy hand. Then I got a ladder, and then a shovel. It's been raining here for days, raining noisy hard. I lost the umbrella, got both my hands muddy, and before long the jacket pretty much stopped working. After that my clothes just seemed silly. I kept my boots, and the shovel, and the ladder. That's how I beat the water. Water will outwork you, but it won't outsmart you. Same is true of rats. Speaking of rats, I have a magnificent rat story for you - but I'm saving it for next week. Happy Thanksgiving.
