KIRK PLAYS THE WHISKEY BAR THIS WEDNESDAY NIGHT

If you haven’t been downtown in a while this is your chance to slip in and out with minimal hassle and have a good time in the process. You didn’t realize this newsletter was soft-core now did you? Anyhow, this cozy club rests sanely on the edge of the Warehouse District, just east of the Rainbow Cattle Company. In other words, you can still find a place to park, and the people you pass on the way from the car are…fun.

This is Kirk’s first show at the Whiskey Bar and he’d love to “make an impact”. He didn’t actually say, “make and impact” but we know he’d be really happy if you came. And yes, they do have a rather nice selection of Whiskeys. And yes, we’re filming the show. We’ll tell you why later ;-)

WHEN:
Wednesday, July 28
9:00pm

WHERE:
The Whiskey Bar
303 W. 5th Street
Austin, TX
481-8599

COST:
An hour, plus travel time. Batteries not included.

2. KIRK IN SALT LAKE CITY
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
You may recall that we mentioned in Issue #3 that THE CLUMSY DRAGON, a new musical Kirk wrote with celebrated children’s author Lauren Collier Swindler (Big Bird Brings Spring to Sesame Street) was going to be presented at the American Alliance for Theatre in Education’s National Conference in Salt Lake City. The time has come and Kirk is off to Utah to accept the award (is it $?) and perform music for the show as well.

But, that is not all, oh no that is not all. He’s also playing a Saturday Night gig at the Sugarhouse Concert Hall. This’ll be a slammin’ version of the 45 minute set you know and love including songs from SUDDENLY BRIGHT OUT, DESPAIR’S BOOK OF DREAMS AND THE SOMETIMES RADIO, and THE DELUGE. Here’s to your friends and loved ones in Salt Lake City.

WHEN:
Saturday July 31st
9:00pm

WHERE:
Sugarhouse Concert Hall
2106 South 1100 East
Salt Lake City, UT 84101

COST:
$7.00

INFO:

3. OASIS SAMPLER
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ****************
Every year Oasis manufacturing collects a handful of their favorite tunes (culled from the records they manufactured that year) and puts them on a CD which they ship thousands of copies of . . . somewhere. We got six! “All Our Own Way” from SUDDENLY BRIGHT OUT is on it.

If you want to hear it: http://www.kirksmith.net/music_listen.shtml

4. WATERLOO RECORDS TEXAS ARTIST WALL
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
While we’re on the subject of hearing things, SUDDENLY BRIGHT OUT is still on the Texas Artist Wall at Waterloo Records a full three months after it’s release. Usually titles come down after a couple of weeks, in order to make room for new releases. The reason it’s still up is because you have been going in, listening to it, and buying it. Yes, you have. And we love that. Thank you. Please don’t stop. Momentum is a mystical and wonderful thing.

5. MESSAGE FROM KIRK
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
I just want you all to hear it from me. I used to think my work, in fact all adult work, more or less, amounted to busting rocks. Work as much and as hard as you can, take a break, and note your progress. Every now and then run up on a particular stone that shakes you down through the bones in your feet when you strike it, balanced by others that turn to powder when you look at them and focus. Lately though, something strange has been happening. And I think it has to do with you. Like always, I find a rock, a big ass hard looking thing, and I take a full swing at it, all two hundred something pounds of me, like a big wave crashing. When I’m done I find myself and look for cracks. There we are, feel that one? Not much, but not superficial either. The stone got one too. The difference is that somehow lately the energy out of that original collision has been doing other work. I hear it out demolishing smaller stones that I wasn’t even aiming for and moving other rocks, ones I didn’t even hit! Not too shabby. This is the way to get things done, I think. Still busting rocks (who isn’t?) but a whole lot more fun than doing it the old-fashioned way. Thanks for your part.

Kirk

7. GIG CALENDAR SERVICE
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
It’s handy, isn’t it, getting a little reminder in the inbox a day or two before the gig? Intrigued? It doesn’t cost a thing. We call it “the day or two in advance of the gig notification service” and you can sign up here: calendar@kirksmith.net. Send a single blank e-mail to that address and we’ll do the rest.

One more chance: calender@kirksmith.net.

8. SOME OTHER STUFF
***********************
We went on and on about Waterloo Records this issue but, if you’re not in Austin, you can always buy SUDDENLY BRIGHT OUT from the stage. Word up NYC, Kirk’s doing an October residency at Pianos.

And it’s still simple and easy to buy directly from us: http://www.kirksmith.net/store_cds_suddenlybrightout.shtml

Or from CD Baby: http://www.cdbaby.com/kirksmith

We’ll be posting footage of the Whiskey Bar show at www.kirksmith.net soon.

Keep in touch.

Our thanks,
Your friends at kirksmith.net
