1. LAST TWO UPCOMING SHOWS
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Yes you read that right. These are the last two shows of 2005. Barring circumstances unforeseen, the remainder of the year will be spent writing, reading, recording, re-inventing, resting and responding. That, and hammering nails -- stop by Cardinal Lane sometime to see what can be done about it. We'll still drop an Issue every six weeks, and post new work as it arrives. All the usual noise except that Kirk won't be out and about singing and playing for a few months. That's all!

2. KIRK LIVE ON KUT
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
You may ask yourself -- how did I get here? You may tell yourself -- this is not my beautiful house! And you may wonder just what exactly Kirk has in common with Rufus Wainwright, Ani Difranco, Damien Rice, Suzanne Vega, Amos Lee, Eliza Gilkyson, Earlimart and Spoon. They've all been invited recently to perform live on KUT radio's Eklektikos with John Aielli; that's what.
"Although the show was initially intended for a classical format, John's flair for the eclectic, his encyclopedic knowledge of music, and his unwavering curiosity of the world around him, could not be contained. Today Eklektikos leaps across almost all musical genres. In any given day--in fact, in any given hour--listeners can hear a sampling from an infinite variety of musical, literary, and theatrical sources."
Listen to Kirk's interview and performance live on August 30th at noon. 90.5 FM or www.kut.org.

Texas Platters
Bonus tracks
BY DARCIE STEVENS
Kirk Smith
Suddenly Bright Out (Man Eats Sparks)
Kirk Smith's banshee vox meets the universe on a scientific scale: comets, seasons, and planets. Dipping into Bowie territory with "All Our Own Way" and slowing down the tempo with the subtle title track, Smith exhibits a good deal of diversity and talent, not surprising coming from an inventive playwright. Prose without being poetry, Suddenly Bright Out bounces between secrets ("Anniversary," "February (Someone Hears)") and quirky rockers ("Stop Comets," "Not on My Side").

SUDDENLY BRIGHT OUT is back up on the Waterloo Records Texas Artists Wall (which means some of you are still buying it, and to you we send lavish blessings and copious thanks. Your future joy in a life of positive remarks is all but assured.
If one happens to find themselves in Austin without a copy, one ought to head over to 6th and Lamar in order to purchase it. Ask anyone you see for directions and chances are they won't be from Santa Fe or Los Angeles, and they will know. Even people from Los Angeles will probably know.

6. SOME OTHER STUFF
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
With a particular reason, and a reasonable need, we grow ever more committed to the principal of "out with the old, in with new". So we're cleaning up the office, re-organizing the studio, and clearing out all of the storage. Need we point out that this is currently all under one roof? Unless we can eat it, ride it, or paddle with it, it's gone. So if there's something you want, and you can find it in the store: www.kirksmith.net/store ask for it now. We'll take 25% off the price, and ship it for free.
And remember, when this stuff is gone, it's . . . eventually going to turn up on ebay. But if you buy it from us your money will finance a new Kirk Smith record that might inspire and thrill you.
Cheers.
Love,
Your friends at kirksmith.net
