Fourteen Sisters

Fourteen scarlet sisters flew
rocketing off
exuberant
like weather balloons untied
wild and wired
drawn through a tilting universe,
hastily cobbled together and unbelievably fast.

All sang, without incident, as traveling friends do
naive, useless, independent.

These fourteen new stars, unnamed, were against nothing
and sped, accordingly. Unabashedly high. Fearlessly unique.
Why rest? What next?

A glimpse of commitment this is, I thought, of those
whose fortunes are threaded most naturally.
