Despair's Book of Dreams and the Sometimes Radio It's the waking dreamscape of a lonely abandoned man capering through the confines of a house as jumbled and tattered as the ruins of his mind. It's soliloquy and song, music and mysticism, even a scattered meditation on the tenuous phantoms of audio frequency. Or infrequency, as the case may be. In his unusual new musical, Kirk Smith moves us through a dark night of the soul of a certain Constantinopolis: a man whose memories both nurture, and terrorize, who is rebuilding within his heartbreak house and antique radio through which he receives broadcasts from... somewhere. Full length. 100 min. more info

Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities Kirk Smith's adept take on Dickens' monumental tale of a world turned upside down in Revolutionary France is as fresh as it is honest. This adaptation molds the immense detail of a story in which two men's lives intertwine with an almost star-crossed duality into a satisfying, accessible vehicle, complete with Paris mobs, storm-swept highways, crowded streets, and treacherous courtrooms. Best of all, it's done briskly, without the burdensome trappings and extravagant indulgences that curdle other adaptations. more info

The Deluge: On the Shoulder of Night (part 1) The rain comes down. It falls over the entire earth: in the fields, the olive groves, on animals, and through cracks in the small, raw wooden room that is the center of existence for what may be the only two people left alive. They are friends, lovers, spouses, and soon to be parents. But they are moving in opposite directions, more and more, coming apart as the rain comes down. And in. The pouring inevitability of loss and renewed hope makes for a dreamy and wet world, sometimes punctuated with lightning and thunder, but continually adrift on an ocean of melancholic water. The Deluge is highly imagistic and poetic, a kind of modern myth using traditional storytelling, dialogue, and music to relate the story of Yosanoah, a young olive farmer, and his wife Aliah, who must decide whether or not to abandon their home as a huge storm approaches. One-act. 50 min. more info

Faustus This raucous new musical details the tragic demise of literature's most illustrious seeker. The play highlights the troubles of the human spirit: fears and aspirations, the quest for knowledge and meaning, and the roles that faith and dependence play in the world. The score enhances the drama utilizing a collection of archival recordings, recorded improvisations by the cast, and original songs played live in the production. Full Length. 95 min. more info

The Clumsy Dragon Created for elementary age children and family audiences, this imaginative new musical recounts the exploits of a young wizard named Alzabar, and a clumsy dragon called Mirabelle, who must overcome a number of challenges in their budding friendship. The story's themes include: loyalty, self-image, and commitment - all communicated through fun dialogue, a handful of songs, and even some dancing. Full length. 75 min. more info

Moby Dick Commissioned by Summer Youth Theatre 2002, this precise and highly theatrical take on Melville's classic American novel unfolds through flashbacks, dialogue, movement and music. Detailing the relentless pursuit of the vulgar, vicious, and possibly supernatural, white whale, the adaptation remains devoted to the language and the spirit of the original, effectively communicating the feel of life at sea, the danger of it, the feverish pursuit and foreboding it occasions, and the roles played by destiny and death. Full Length. 110 min. more info

The Deluge: Divining a Night Raft, Drunk (part 2) Inspired by both the legend of Noah and the great flood, and Gericault's 19 th Century painting, The Raft of the Medusa, this musical play challenges conventional gender stereotypes and stretches contemporary notions of religion and history. 70 min.
